Color Analysis App That Scans Makeup — How TruHue™ Works

You know your color season. Now you need to know which products actually work for it. That's the gap most color analysis apps leave open — they tell you your season and hand you a palette card, but the next time you're shopping, you're still guessing.

TruHue™ closes that gap. It's a scoring engine that takes any makeup product and tells you whether it's a YAY (strong match), OKAY (wearable), or NAY (clashing) for your specific season. Search a product, scan a barcode, or browse by season — and you'll see your score before you buy.

What Makes TruHue™ Different

Most color analysis tools stop at the quiz. You answer some questions, get a season name, maybe see a palette graphic — and then you're on your own. You still have to figure out which lipstick is "warm enough" or "muted enough" for your palette by eye.

Not sure which season you are?

Take the free color analysis quiz — 2 minutes, no email required. Then every product in this post gets scored for your palette.

Take the Free Quiz

TruHue™ goes further. The quiz is the door in; the scoring engine is the product. Once you know your season, every product in the catalog has a score waiting for you. Not a generic recommendation — a specific verdict based on that product's actual color data analyzed against your season's palette.

The same lipstick can be a YAY for True Autumn and a NAY for True Winter. The score isn't about the product being good or bad — it's about whether the color works with your specific coloring.

How the Scoring Works

Every product in the TruHue™ catalog is tagged with a hex color value — the actual color of the product, not a marketing name. The scoring engine analyzes that hex value across three dimensions:

Undertone — Is the shade warm, cool, or neutral? Your season has an undertone preference, and the engine checks whether the product aligns.

Depth — Is the shade light, medium, or deep? Light seasons need lighter shades; deep seasons can handle richer ones. A depth mismatch means the shade will either wash you out or overpower you.

Chroma — Is the shade muted or vivid? Soft seasons need muted shades; bright seasons need saturated ones. This is the dimension most people overlook, and it's often the reason a shade in the right color family still feels "off."

The engine weighs all three dimensions and produces a score: YAY, OKAY, or NAY. Simple, actionable, and specific to your season.

What 25,000+ Products Looks Like

The TruHue™ catalog covers 25,000+ products across 434 brands. That includes products from Sephora, Ulta, Amazon, Target, and brand-direct retailers. Every product is hex-tagged and scored against all 12 seasons.

Categories in the catalog include lipstick, lip gloss, lip liner, blush, bronzer, eyeshadow, eyeliner, nail polish, and highlighter — every color cosmetic where your season matters. Foundation and concealer use a separate skin-tone matching system, because foundation matching is about matching your skin rather than harmonizing with your palette.

The catalog grows continuously. New products are captured via the browser extension's retailer extractors and verified before they enter the scoring pipeline.

The Quiz — Your Two-Minute Entry Point

The TruHue™ quiz takes about two minutes. It analyzes your undertone, depth, and clarity to match you to one of 12 seasons in the Sci/Art color analysis system — the same framework used by professional color analysts worldwide.

If you've already had a professional in-person analysis, you can skip the quiz entirely and set your season directly. The scoring engine works the same either way — your season is the input, and every product score flows from it.

The quiz is free. Searching and scoring products is free. You'll see your YAY, OKAY, and NAY scores without paying anything.
