What TruHue Is
TruHue is a 12-season color matching engine for makeup. You take a 2-minute quiz, find your color season, and then every product you search or scan gets scored YAY, OKAY, or NAY for your palette. Over 50,000 products across 700+ brands — scored before you buy.
You can use it on the web, as a browser extension that works right on Sephora, Ulta, and Target product pages, or as an iPhone app with barcode scanning. Open the app in the drugstore aisle, scan a lipstick, and you'll know in three seconds whether it works on you.
Who Built It
TruHue was built by Claudia and her daughter Liv, in Oklahoma.
Claudia is the color science side. She hand-curated the scoring algorithm and the 30,000-product database that calibrated it — testing shade after shade against every season until the math matched what a trained eye would say.
Liv is 16 and built the acne audit: an 856-ingredient comedogenic database that flags products that might break you out. The acne audit was her idea, born from personal frustration with viral products that wrecked her skin. She wanted a tool that would tell her the truth before she spent $28 on a foundation that looked great in the TikTok but gave her cystic acne by Thursday.
Why We Built It
The short version: Claudia couldn't find a tool that told her which specific products worked on her coloring. Color analysis apps told her she was Soft Autumn — great. But when she stood in the drugstore aisle looking at 40 lipsticks, none of them told her which one was right.
How Scoring Works
Every product gets scored on four dimensions: undertone, depth, chroma, and contrast. The engine compares those attributes against your season's ideal palette and returns a percentage.
70% or higher is a YAY. 35–69% is an OKAY. Under 35% is a NAY.
No opinions, no aesthetic agenda — just math. The engine doesn't care what's trending. It cares whether a shade harmonizes with your natural coloring. You decide what to wear. TruHue just tells you what works.
