What we collect:
- First name (for your profile)
- Selfie photo (used for AI-powered color analysis; see below)
- Product photos (used for AI-powered color extraction; see below)
- Color analysis quiz answers
- Product scan history
- Age range selection
AI-Powered Color Analysis & Third-Party Data Sharing:
TruHue uses artificial intelligence to analyze your selfie photo and product images to determine your seasonal color palette and evaluate product color matches. To perform this analysis, your photos are sent to Anthropic, PBC (the maker of Claude AI) via their API. Specifically:
- Your selfie photo is transmitted to Anthropic's servers for color analysis when you use the color analysis feature
- Product photos may be sent to Anthropic for color extraction when scanning products
- Photos are processed by Anthropic and are not permanently stored on their servers per their data retention policy
- You will be asked for explicit consent before any photos are sent for AI analysis
- You can revoke this consent at any time in the app's Settings
- For more information about how Anthropic handles data, visit anthropic.com/privacy
How we use your data:
- To determine your seasonal color palette (via AI analysis)
- To score products against your palette
- To personalize product recommendations
What we do NOT do:
- We do not sell your personal data
- We do not use behavioral advertising
- We do not track your location
- We do not use your photos for any purpose other than color analysis
Children's Privacy (COPPA):
For users under 13, we require parental consent. We collect minimal data and do not serve targeted advertising to minors.
Data Deletion:
You can delete all your data from the Settings screen at any time. This removes your profile, scan history, and favorites from the device and our servers.

Browser Extension (TruHue Widget)
The TruHue browser extension (Chrome Web Store, Safari Extensions) is a separate product from the mobile app and handles data differently:
What the extension stores locally on your device:
- Your color season selection (e.g., "Soft Autumn") — kept in Chrome sync storage so it follows you across signed-in browsers
- A 7-day cache of product scoring results (in IndexedDB) so previously-scored products show their badge instantly without re-querying our server
What the extension sends to our servers:
- For each product page you view that the extension recognizes, it sends the product name, brand, shade name, and (when available) the color hex value to TruHue's scoring API at api.truhue.app, so we can return YAY/OKAY/NAY for your season. Your color season is sent with each request.
- For dupe lookups, the extension sends the same product context so we can return cheaper alternatives in your season.
- If you choose to submit a missing product via the "Add this product" prompt, the photos and notes you provide are sent to our servers for catalog review.
What the extension does NOT collect:
- Browsing history outside the product pages it recognizes
- Personal information (name, email, payment data)
- Cookies, login state, or session data from any retailer site
- Pages on retailers we don't have selectors for
- Anything when you have the extension toggled off in the popup
Affiliate disclosure:
When you click a product link on a page where the extension is running, we may rewrite the URL to add an affiliate tag (Amazon Associates, Walmart Creator). This costs you nothing extra and helps fund development. The link still goes to the same product on the same retailer; only the referral attribution changes.
Third parties:
The extension's scoring API runs on Netlify Functions and reads from our product catalog (no third-party AI services involved in scoring). Image submissions sent through "Add this product" are stored in Firebase Storage operated by Google. We do not share extension data with advertisers or analytics services.
Removing the extension:
Uninstall it from chrome://extensions (Chrome) or Settings → Extensions (Safari). All locally cached data is removed automatically.
